Jon, a renowned figure in the diabetes community, has recently been elected to the Board of Directors for BEAT Diabetes Foundation, a leading organization dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes and improving the lives of those living with the condition. Jon, who has been living with type 1 diabetes since 1982, shares his thoughts on why this new role is so significant to him and his vision for the future of diabetes management in the Nordic region.
"I have always been passionate about increasing awareness, removing stigmas, and highlighting the possibilities of living with diabetes," says Jon. "BEAT has an amazing platform, open mind, and passion to involve more organizations in the cause. We need to move faster and together." Jon believes that BEAT Diabetes Foundation can play a crucial role in bringing various stakeholders together to collaborate and drive positive change in the field of diabetes.
With over 30 years of high-tech experience, Jon brings a unique perspective to the board. He envisions leveraging the Nordic tech innovation ecosystem to actively promote diabetes management. "I want to see our Nordic tech innovation ecosystem come together more actively, with a specific focus and investment in diabetes management," says Jon. "Technological advancements, such as AI, Cloud, and connected sensors, can enable more decision support for users and provide tailored user experiences for different individuals. This can be crucial in creating engaging and long-term involvement in diabetes care."
Jon highlights the unique position of the Nordic region in addressing the global diabetes epidemic. "While more than 500 million people live with diabetes worldwide, Finland and Sweden are ranked highest for type 1 diabetes in the world," says Jon. "With a highly technology-savvy and interested population, a progressive innovation ecosystem, and supportive governments, the Nordic region has the potential to lead the world in developing breakthrough solutions for diabetes management." Jon believes that BEAT Diabetes Foundation can play a key role in bringing together global companies and local innovation leaders to drive awareness of possibilities and challenges and accelerate progress in diabetes care.
Jon's vision for the future of diabetes management is ambitious and hopeful. "It is in our hands in the Nordics to assume a leadership position and show what is possible," says Jon. "By leveraging high-tech innovation, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and driving awareness, we can make a real difference in the lives of those living with diabetes and ultimately beat diabetes together."
BEAT Diabetes Foundation is fortunate to have Jon on its Board of Directors, bringing his wealth of experience and passion for diabetes advocacy. His vision for leveraging high-tech innovation in diabetes management and driving collaboration among stakeholders aligns perfectly with the foundation's mission. Together, Jon and BEAT Diabetes Foundation aim to create a brighter future for those living with diabetes in the Nordic region and beyond.
